French Toast: Quick & Easy!

Welcome to COOKING IN PLAIN ENGLISH VIDEOS! In this video I've shown how to make quick & easy, fully flavorful French Toast that only requires the following ingredients and pieces of equipment:

Ingredients :

1-2 Pieces of Bread Per Person
1 Egg Per Piece of Bread
Milk
Dash of Salt
Vanilla Extract
Cinnamon & Sugar
Butter or Margarine
Maple Syrup (or see French Toast: From Simple to Exciting Toppings for alternative, flavorful toppings)

Equipment :

Large Frying Pan (10-12 inches in diameter)
Spatula
Table Knife
Bowl
Fork
Teaspoon
Pan (for soaking bread)

1. Let a frying pan warm on the stove over MEDIUM heat while you break eggs into a mixing bowl. (Remove any broken shell pieces from the bowl by using a larger piece of egg shell to attract and scoop the smaller broken pieces like this.)

2. Add a dash of salt, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a shot of milk to the eggs.

3. Mix the eggs vigorously with a fork until the egg yolks and eggs whites are well mixed together.

4. Lay the bread pieces in a pan, pour the egg mixture over them and then turn the bread pieces over to ensure an even soaking with the eggs.

5. To check the frying pan for the proper cooking temperature, wet your fingers with tap water, then flick the water into the pan. The water should sizzle and evaporate.

6. Add and spread just enough butter or margarine to cover the hot pan surface with a thin, even coating.

7. Put the soaked bread pieces in the hot pan and cook for a few minutes until the bottom side is lightly browned.

8. Turn the bread pieces over with a spatula, top the bread with a good dusting of cinnamon sugar and cook again until the bottom sides are also lightly browned.

9. Remove the French toast from the pan and either serve with maple syrup of one of the alternative toppings as seen in French Toast: From Simple to Exciting Toppings, which can be found on the Western Cooking In Plain English recipe menu page.

10. To make clean up as easy as possible, let the pan cool for a few minutes. Then add tap water and a shot of dish detergent.

11. Let the pan sit until it is cool enough to touch. Then use the spatula, if necessary, and a dish brush to remove the eggs from the pan surface. Rinse, and the pan should be clean.
