Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich: From Simple to Exciting!
Welcome to WESTERN COOKING IN PLAIN ENGLISH VIDEOS! In this video I've shown how to take a Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich "from simple to exciting!" using the following commonly found ingredients and pieces of equipment:
Ingredients :
3-4 Pieces of Bacon (pork or turkey bacon) 2 Pieces of Bread Lettuce Tomato Mayonnaise (can be substituted by more flavorful options below)
Optional "From Simple to Exciting" Ingredients (Use your choice or a combination of any of the following)
Pesto or Mustard (for pesto, see "Pesto: Fresh & Easy" video or text directions) Red (or any) Onion Hot Pepper 1/4 Avocado Cheese Sun Dried Tomatoes Roasted Red Peppers Favorite Spice Seasoning or Ground Black Pepper Salad Dressing
Equipment :
Microwave Oven Toaster Paper Towels Big Microwave Safe Plate Sharp Knife Table Knife Cutting Board
1. Fold 4 pieces of paper towel in half. Lay half the paper towel on a plate and cover with 3-4 pieces of bacon (in the video I used both pork and turkey bacon to show how they cook side by side).
2. Cover the bacon with the rest of the paper towel and cook the bacon in the microwave oven at high heat for about 1 minute per bacon piece (I used 4 bacon pieces and set the microwave timer for 4 minutes). Make sure to wash your hands with warm water and soap after handling the raw bacon. 3. While the bacon cooks, toast the bread and rinse and shake dry a piece of lettuce and a tomato. 4. Prepare the tomato by cutting out the core and cutting 2-3 slices about ? inch wide. 5. Prepare your choice or a combination of the following from simple to exciting ingredients. Red (or any) Onion - cut it in half lengthwise and in half again, peel off the skin and cut 3-4 thin slices. Avocado - avocados are ripe when you can press your thumb fairly firmly into the skin and leave a dent. Prepare them by cutting lengthwise around the seed, twisting them open, safely removing the seed (as shown in the video), cutting them in half again, peeling the skin, cutting them in slices and the chopping the slices in cross section. Sun Dried Tomatoes - if they're packaged in oil, you can either use them as is or drain some of the oil by squeezing them gently in paper towels. Then slice and chop them into smaller pieces. Roasted Red Peppers - use them as is out of the jar, slice them open and use them uncut in one big piece. Hot Pepper - make a shallow cut around the stem, then cut the pepper lengthwise around the seed core, remove the seeds together like this and cut thin slices to taste. Cheese - slice or use enough to cover the sandwich. 6. Make sure the bacon is browned and crispy (Bacon that is pink and soft is not cooked through and should be cooked until it looks like this). 7. Put the sandwich together by first using your choice of spread on the toast (I used both pesto and mustard in the video). Top with bacon and add as many of the "from simple to exciting!" ingredients as you prepared to build the rest of the sandwich. Then, either have it as is or top with ground black pepper or your favorite spiced seasoning and/or salad dressing. Cover with the second piece of toast and slice the sandwich in half for easier handling.
