Quick & Easy Tomato & Onion Salad with Flavorful Variations
Welcome to WESTERN COOKING IN PLAIN ENGLISH VIDEOS! In this video I've shown how to make a quick & easy, very flavorful tomato & onion salad using only the following ingredients and pieces of equipment:
Ingredients :
(for 2-3 servings) 3 Medium Sized Ripe Tomatoes 1/2 Onion Salad Dressing (commercial dressing or see "Quick Salad Dressing" video for easy homemade salad dressing)
Optional Flavorful Ingredients :
1/2 Ripe Avocado Roasted Red Peppers (packaged in a jar) Grated Cheese
Equipment :
Sharp Knife (preferably, a wide bladed chef's knife) Cutting Board Bowl Big Spoon
1. Rinse and shake dry the tomatoes. Carefully cut out the tomato stem core and slice the tomatoes in half. Cut the tomatoes into about ? inch slices, cut those slices into about ? inch pieces and put the pieces in the bowl.
2. Cut an onion in half. Cut off the end pieces and peel off the onion skin (if the skin is hard to peel, peel off one layer of onion to make the peeling easier). 3. Anchor the peeled onion half to the cutting board with curled fingers. Then bring the side of a sharp knife blade against the knuckles on your anchoring hand and cut slices about ? inch wide making sure not to cut through the back of the onion half. The uncut piece of the onion will act like the binding of a book holding all the pieces together as you cut slices and then turn the onion half 90 degrees and chop those slices into ? diced pieces. Add the onion to the chopped tomatoes in the bowl. 4. Top with salad dressing to taste, mix with a big spoon and either serve as is or add any or all of the following: - 1/2 a ripe avocado cut into ? inch pieces - Chopped roasted red peppers (packaged in a jar) - Grated cheese For more easy to follow Western Cooking in Plain English videos, please see http://wisdeo.com/cook/ To contact me directly, please either email me at bruce_tretter@wisdeo.com or connect via Twitter: @cookingvideos |
